Hearing the words, you have cancer, is a major fear for most people. A cancer diagnosis is shocking and scary. Dr. Dominic Brandy heard those words when he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. In his book, Beat Back Cancer Naturally, he talks about his healing journey and how we can learn to prevent, survive and even thrive with cancer.
In a recent conversation, Dr. Brandy offered healing strategies. Here is some of what he said.
On a cancer diagnosis:
We all know we’re going to die. But when you’re with that diagnosis, all of a sudden it’s right in front of your face. You really have to start looking at your spiritual priorities and your family priorities. You have to take a good look at your life.
On nutrition:
I think doctors feel deficient in their knowledge so they totally stay away from it. A lot of it has to do with training. In medical school, we got about 10 hours of nutrition training and it’s like a junior high school health class.
On advice for healing:
I strongly recommend that you try to eat whole food, plant based if you can. Plants have antioxidant power compared to animal products. Try to eliminate as many free radicals as you can.
On lifestyle changes:
Exercise, stress reduction and sleep. Of those three, exercise is the most important - it’s the king pin. It does so many things. When we exercise, we sleep better and sleep is extremely important. When we’re in deep sleep, that’s when a lot of the DNA repair is going on and a lot of the clean up is going on.
