20 Companies Hiring During the Coronavirus Pandemic

With more than 10 million newly-unemployed Americans looking for work, and that number growing greater every day, some companies have focused their efforts on thousands of new hires to help meet the surging demand for their products. Retail chains, food delivery services, home improvement brands, and pharmacies all have recently published releases to find people who want to make a difference.

The curated list below details 20 different companies that are currently looking to hire more employees at this time:

Retail

  • Walmart is hiring 150,000 workers to help across its supply chain – including full time, part-time, and temporary positions in its distribution and fulfillment centers. Executive vice president Greg Smith said, "Our supply chain associates have been so vital to Walmart’s ability to serve communities during this time.”

  • Amazon announced on its corporate blog that it will ramp up hiring, opening 100,000 new full and part time jobs across delivery and fulfillment centers to help meet the surge in demand.

  • Dollar General aims to bring in an additional 50,000 workers across the United States by the end of the month.

  • Target is investing more than $300 million in wages, new programs, and assistance for organizations. The company also announced it is hiring almost 10,000 employees nation-wide.

  • 7-Eleven announced on its careers page that it is employing an additional 20,000 employees to meet increased demand for its services.

  • Last week, Kroger welcomed over 23,000 new associates to its organization. It also announced a plan to hire an additional 20,000 associates. In a company release published last week, Kroger’s senior vice president said, “Kroger's top priority continues to be uplifting our associates and serving our communities, whether that's by ensuring customers always can find food and products on our shelves or by providing a nearly immediate job opportunity to help an unemployed person to begin working again.“

  • Big Lots announced on LinkedIn that it was hiring temporary help for all locations.


Food

  • Founder and CEO, Apoorva Mehta, announced that over the next three months, Instacart plans to hire an additional 300,000 workers to aid in full-service shopping.

  • Pizza Hut announced on its corporate blog that it is expanding its team by more than 30,000 employees nation-wide to respond to increased demand.

  • Papa Johns sent out a press release that the company will hire 20,000 new team members to help meet its needs during these challenging times.  

  • Dominos is working to better serve their communities and aims to hire an additional 10,000 employees.

  • Blue Apron is hiring in its New Jersey and California fulfillment centers.

  • Publix Super Markets announced on its LinkedIn that it are hiring thousands of associates for its warehouses and stores. 


Home Improvement

  • Ace Hardware is boosting employment opportunities to the sound of 30,000 new positions. In a statement about the positions, president and CEO John Venhuizen said, “When a ‘Help Wanted’ sign hangs in the window of a local Ace store, it means way more than just, ‘we’re hiring.’ It means we are further serving our neighbors. For 95 years we believe we’ve been blessed to be in the business of serving others.”

  • Lowe’s announced it will be hiring 30,000 new employees to ensure its customers have access to the essential products they need during this time.


Pharmaceutical

  • CVS Health put out a release on its newsroom that the company is seeking to add 50,000 full-time, part-time, and temporary roles in response to the pandemic.

  • Walgreens published a post on LinkedIn stating that the company is seeking to fill 25,000 roles across the country.

  • Rite Aid is hiring 5,000 employees to help further serve their communities.  

  • Research and development-drive pharmaceutical company, Takeda, is adding 2,000 roles during this time.
